The Uganda Law Society and the Uganda National Civil Society Coalition (UNCC)—comprising the Center for Food and Adequate Living Rights (CEFROHT) and CONSENT—formally presented a joint petition to the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
The petition highlights the urgent necessity to enact regulations on Front-of-Pack Warning Labels (FOPWL) and nutrient profiling to combat the skyrocketing rates of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) caused by unhealthy processed diets in Uganda.
Representing CONSENT, Communications Officer Ms. Ashah Ntabadde stressed that mandatory nutrient profiling will protect vulnerable consumers from deceptive health claims and ensure transparency in local food markets.
